Content Warnings
A Note Before You Read
I write dark romance. My books contain adult content, violence, morally complicated men, and heroines who don’t always walk into safe rooms. Some readers want to know exactly what they’re getting into before they turn the first page. This page is for you.
Every book I publish will have its own content warning list on this page. General baseline warnings for the Cara Hollis catalog are listed below, followed by book-specific warnings organized by title.
A note on spoilers: Some content warnings reference plot elements you would otherwise discover while reading. If you’d rather come to those moments cold, use the general list and skip the per-book sections. If you’d rather know everything before you start, keep reading — I’ll never judge you for wanting the full picture.
I update this page as new books release. If you have a specific concern that isn’t listed here and you’d like to know whether it appears in one of my books, you can reach me at author-cara@carahollis.com and I’ll answer honestly.
What You’ll Find in My Books
These themes and content elements appear across the Cara Hollis catalog. Assume any book carries these unless a specific title’s notes indicate otherwise.
- Explicit sexual content, on-page, scorching heat level
- Organized crime settings, including on-page violence
- Morally gray to morally black heroes
- Possessive and protective hero dynamics
- Power imbalance handled within the fantasy
- Guns, physical violence, and threat of violence
- Death and grief (on-page and referenced)
- Heavy alcohol use
- Adult language throughout
- Catholic religious content and imagery
- Family dysfunction and estrangement
Every book ends with a Happily Ever After. That is a promise.

In addition to the general list above, OWED contains:
- Emotional abuse within the heroine’s family of origin, including parental favoritism and scapegoating dynamics
- Long-term financial exploitation of the heroine by her family

- Discussion of that death and its circumstances throughout the book
- Discovery of financial exploitation of the deceased character by another character
- On-page cardiac emergency and CPR administered by the heroine
- Care of a seriously ill elderly patient
